    FAQ

    Introduction

Sync your workouts and body composition data with Apple Health for better progress tracking and personalized workout recommendations.

    • Workouts: Send logged workouts to Apple Health and import compatible Apple Health workouts into Fitbod.
    • Body Composition: Sync body fat percentage, weight, and lean mass to track changes and refine recommendations over time.

Follow the steps below to enable syncing and ensure the correct permissions are set for seamless data tracking.

    How to Connect Apple Health

Follow the below steps to sync Fitbod with Apple Health.

    In the Fitbod app:

    1. Open the Log Tab.
    2. Tap the Settings icon (top right).
    3. Scroll to Health Profile.
    4. Tap Sync with Apple Health.
    5. Follow the prompts to grant access permissions (see details in Apple Health Sync Permissions).

đź’ˇ Note: You can also enable syncing directly in Apple Health:

    1. Open Apple Health.
    2. Tap Your Profile (top right).
    3. Go to Privacy > Apps > Fitbod.
    4. Enable Read and Write permissions for workouts and body composition data.

    Apple Health Sync Permissions

For the most reliable Fitbod and Apple Health experience, we recommend enabling all permissions (both Read and Write) when prompted.

Selectively enabling a subset of permissions can cause syncing inconsistencies — for example, if Active Energy or Workouts permissions are turned off, Fitbod may not be able to log your workout calories to Apple Health, even when other data points are syncing correctly. Enabling all permissions ensures workouts, calories, heart rate, and body composition data flow cleanly between the two apps.

    Workout Syncing

Write Access (Fitbod → Apple Health):

    • Workouts — Saves your Fitbod workouts to Apple Health.
    • Active Energy — Tracks calories burned during workouts.
    • Heart Rate — Logs heart rate data (if using Apple Watch).

Read Access (Apple Health → Fitbod):

    • Workouts — Imports compatible Apple Health workouts into Fitbod.
    • Active Energy — Reads calorie burn data.
    • Heart Rate — Includes heart rate info during workouts (if applicable).

    Body Composition Syncing

    Read & Write Access:

    • Body Fat Percentage
    • Body Mass Index (BMI)
    • Lean Body Mass
    • Waist Circumference
    • Weight
    • Height

Profile data (for better calorie estimates)

    • Date of Birth
    • Sex
    • Height
    • Weight

These are used to refine Fitbod's calorie burn estimates. They can also be entered manually in the app if you'd prefer not to grant access.

đź’ˇ Tip: If you skipped permissions on first setup, you can re-enable them at any time:

    1. Open the Health app on your iPhone.
    2. Tap your profile icon (top right) → Apps → Fitbod.
    3. Tap "Turn All Categories On."

    Logging & Syncing Workouts

Once you've enabled Apple Health permissions, Fitbod will sync your workouts to Apple Health automatically. The Sync to Apple Health toggle on the post-workout summary screen stays on by default — you don't need to enable it each time.

    2__6_.png

The toggle will only turn off if:

    • You manually toggle it off before saving a workout
    • You disconnect Fitbod from Apple Health in settings
    • You delete and reinstall Fitbod

If you'd rather not sync a specific workout (for example, a quick warm-up), you can toggle it off on the post-workout summary screen before tapping Log Workout.

    If a workout didn't sync

If you logged a workout with the toggle off or notice it's missing from Apple Health, you can resend it on the same day:

    1. Ensure you're Apple Health permissions are enabled.
    2. Open the Log tab.
    3. Tap the workout you want to sync.
    4. Tap Resume, then Save again with the Apple Health toggle on.

This only works on the same calendar day the workout was originally logged. Workouts from previous days can't be backfilled into Apple Health.

    Syncing with Apple Fitness

To sync workouts with the Apple Fitness app, you’ll need an Apple Watch. Once enabled, any logged workouts synced to Apple Health will automatically sync to the Fitness app.

    Compatible Apple Health Workouts

    • Indoor Run, Outdoor Run
    • Indoor Walk, Outdoor Walk
    • Indoor Cycle, Outdoor Cycle
    • Elliptical, Rower
    • Hiking
    • Pool Swim, Open Water Swim

Activities not on this list won't be read by Fitbod. If you do an activity Fitbod doesn't recognize (for example, racquetball, pickleball, climbing, or other sports), logging it in Apple Fitness won't influence your next Fitbod workout. To account for outside activity, manually adjust your muscle recovery percentages from the Workout tab before generating your next Fitbod workout.

    Disconnecting Fitbod and Apple Health

If you no longer want Fitbod to share data with Apple Health, you can disconnect the integration at any time from your device settings.

To disconnect Fitbod from Apple Health:

    1. Open the Health app.
    2. Tap your profile icon in the (top right).
    3. Select Apps under Privacy.
    4. Tap Fitbod.
    5. Turn off all permissions, or disable specific data types you no longer want to share.

    Alternatively:

    1. Open the Fitbod app.
    2. Navigate to the Log tab.
    3. Select the Settings icon (top right).
    4. Select Apple Health.
    5. Toggle off all sync options, or disable specific data types you no longer want to share.

Once permissions are disabled, Fitbod will stop reading from and writing data to Apple Health. Previously shared data will remain in Fitbod and Apple Health unless you manually remove it.

    Troubleshooting & FAQ

My workouts aren't syncing to Apple Health, or the connection keeps dropping

If you're on Fitbod 8.15 or earlier, please update to the latest version from the App Store — older versions had a permission issue that caused Apple Health to silently disconnect between workouts.

After updating, you'll see the Apple Health permission prompt one more time when you open Fitbod. Please approve it — this is a one-time step to restore access on accounts that were affected.

If you're on the latest version and the connection still drops:

    1. Open the Health app on your iPhone.
    2. Tap your profile icon → Privacy & Security → Apps → Fitbod.
    3. Tap "Turn All Categories Off," wait a few seconds, then tap "Turn All Categories On."
    4. Open Fitbod and complete a workout to confirm the connection holds.

My Fitbod workout calories aren't showing in my Move ring or Apple Fitness totals

If your workouts are syncing to Apple Health but the calories aren't showing in your daily Move ring or Apple Fitness summary, this is usually a data source priority issue.

Apple Health uses a priority ranking when more than one app writes Active Energy at the same time — it picks one source as authoritative and ignores the others. If Fitbod sits below another source (like your Apple Watch, Whoop, or Strava), your Fitbod calories may be excluded from your totals.

To put Fitbod at the top of the priority list:

    1. Open the Health app.
    2. Go to Browse → Activity → Active Energy.
    3. Scroll down to Data Sources & Access → Edit.
    4. Drag Fitbod to the top of the list.

This change applies going forward only — it won't retroactively recalculate past workouts.

Can I sync a workout that's already been logged?

Yes, on the same calendar day. Ensure your Apple Health permissions are enabled, navigate to the Log tab, tap the workout, then tap Resume → Save. Workouts from previous days can't be backfilled into Apple Health.

Can I sync only some of my workouts to Apple Health?

Yes. On the post-workout summary screen, toggle Sync to Apple Health off before tapping Save for any workout you'd like to keep out of Apple Health. This will disable the sync for future workouts so you'll want to toggle this back on if you want your next workout to sync to Apple Health.

Which activity types can Fitbod import from Apple Health?

Fitbod imports the following activities logged via Apple Health:

    • Indoor Run, Outdoor Run
    • Indoor Walk, Outdoor Walk
    • Indoor Cycle, Outdoor Cycle
    • Elliptical, Rower
    • Hiking
    • Pool Swim, Open Water Swim

Activities outside this list — including sports like pickleball, racquetball, basketball, yoga, and HIIT — won't be read by Fitbod's algorithm. To account for those sessions in your next Fitbod workout, manually adjust your muscle recovery percentages from the Workout tab before generating the workout.

  • Apple Watch

Fitbod’s Apple Watch app works alongside the iPhone app. Start and save workouts from your iPhone while your Apple Watch lets you log sets, track your rest timer, and monitor heart rate during your workout.

    Requirements

Fitbod requires iOS 18 and watchOS 10 or later. Older versions may continue to work, but compatibility isn’t guaranteed. For the best experience, keep both devices up to date.

Note: Always On display is not currently supported.

What you can do on your Apple Watch

During an active workout, your Apple Watch can:

    • Log sets and mark exercises complete
    • Adjust reps, weight, distance, duration, resistance, incline, or band setting per set
    • Add or remove sets during a workout (up to 9 sets per exercise)
    • Show your rest timer with haptic and audio cues
    • Display your live heart rate

    What requires your iPhone

    • Starting a workout: Your watch will prompt "Start workout on your iPhone"
    • Swapping or adding exercises during an in-progress workout
    • Saving your workout: Tapping Finish on your watch ends the session and your iPhone logs it

How to install Fitbod onto your Apple Watch

In most cases, Fitbod installs on your watch automatically when you install it on your iPhone. If it doesn't:

    1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone
    2. Go to the My Watch tab
    3. Scroll to Available Apps
    4. Find Fitbod and tap Install

How Fitbod uses Apple Health data

During workouts, Fitbod reads heart rate data from your Apple Watch in real time to help refine calorie estimates. When you save a workout, Fitbod writes the completed workout and calorie data to Apple Health.

When you first connect Apple Health, Fitbod can also import profile information such as height, weight, age, and gender to help personalize your workouts.

Note: For more details about Apple Health permissions and syncing behavior see: Apple Health.

    FAQ

Does Fitbod for Apple Watch work without my iPhone nearby?

Fitbod for Apple Watch is designed as a companion app, not a standalone experience. After starting a workout on your iPhone, you can use your Apple Watch throughout the workout to log sets, track your rest timer, and monitor heart rate without interacting with your phone. Your iPhone is still required to swap or add exercises and to finalize and save the completed workout.

Why does my timer appear frozen or my rest notifications not fire?

Fitbod's Apple Watch app doesn't currently support Always On display. When your watch screen dims, the rest timer pauses and may not fire a rest notification. A few things that help:

    • Disable Always On on your Apple Watch (Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On)
    • Raise your wrist or tap your watch when a rest period ends to advance to the next set

I'm unable to install Fitbod on my Apple Watch. What should I do?

Make sure your Apple Watch is running the latest version of watchOS that it supports. Then try reinstalling Fitbod on your iPhone. Your watch should pick it up automatically.

If you need to add/delete exercises or alter your sets/reps/weight, you will need to perform this action on your phone. We are working on adding additional functionality to our WearOS app as we continue further development.

    How to Start your Workout

After requirements 1-3 have been met under the WearOS Connection Requirements, you're ready to start using Fitbod on your WearOS device! To start your workout on your watch, simply open the Fitbod app on your watch and the screen should display the overview of your workout (image below) along with the Start Workout button. Tap on Start Workout to start your workout! YAY!

    Important Note:

***Logging a set on the watch will not trigger any rest-timer to initiate. At this time, you will need to log sets on the phone app in order to initiate any rest-timer. Logging a set on the watch will simply go to the next set/exercise as if rest-timers are turned OFF. This is an improvement we have on our roadmap as we continue to develop our WearOS app. If you have any questions, please email us at support@fitbod.me

    Automatic Scrolling

With our WearOS app, no need to scroll through your workout as you perform exercises! The app will automatically move your list of exercises in the proper order so your next exercise is always displayed on your watch face. This is especially helpful when moving through Circuits & Supersets which can be seen below. FAQ

Does Fitbod collect heart rate data from my Fitbit to calculate calories?

No. Unfortunately, Fitbit's API doesn't allow us to collect heart rate data so calorie calculations are completed using Fitbod’s formula.

How do I avoid duplicate workout entries posting to my Fitbit feed?

To avoid duplicate workouts being posted, you can:

    1. Turn “Post workouts to Fitbit” OFF (while keeping other settings turned ON) and run a workout on both Fitbod and Fitbit

    OR

    2. Don’t auto or manually run a workout on Fitbit and have Fitbod post the workout to your Fitbit feed

    What is Strava?

Strava is a popular fitness tracking app and social network for athletes. By connecting Strava to Fitbod, you can share your Fitbod workouts with your Strava community, import your Strava activities into Fitbod, and get recommendations that factor in your full activity.

Join the Fitbod Strava Club to connect with other Fitbod athletes!

How to Connect Strava to Fitbod

Before you begin, make sure you have a Strava account (sign up in the Strava app or at strava.com.)

    1. Open Fitbod.
    2. Tap the Log tab.
    3. Tap the Settings icon (top right).
    4. Scroll down to Connected Apps → Strava.
    5. Tap Connect with Strava.
    6. Log in to Strava → Select permissions → Click Authorize.

⚠️ Note: Strava workouts must be set to Public to view in Fitbod. If your activities are set to "Only Me" or "Followers Only," Fitbod won't be able to import them.

Viewing & Editing Fitbod Workouts in Strava

After logging a Fitbod workout, your workout details are synced and visible directly in Strava:

    • A Muscle Impact image is displayed with each posted workout, showing which muscles were trained.
    • Exercises, reps, and weights logged in Fitbod are synced to Strava, where you can make further edits.
    • Exercise names in Strava may differ slightly from Fitbod, as Strava maps them to its closest equivalent (e.g. 1/2 Kneeling Shotgun Row → Row).
    • You can also add or remove exercises within Strava.

⚠️ Note: Edits made in Strava post-workout are one-way and won't be reflected back in Fitbod.

    Using Strava with Apple Health

Fitbod filters out workouts in Apple Health that were written by Strava. This prevents the same workout from being imported twice. If you use a third-party app that syncs to Apple Health through Strava, the workout will appear in Apple Health with "Strava" as the source and Fitbod will filter it out.

To make sure these workouts import into Fitbod, either:

    • Make the activity public in Strava so Fitbod can import it through the Strava connection
    • Connect the app directly to Apple Health so the workout appears with the original app as the source

    FAQ

Why aren’t my Strava workouts showing in Fitbod?

If your supported Strava activities aren't showing in Fitbod:

    1. Make sure your workouts in Strava are public. Fitbod can only import public activities.
    2. Check that your activity type is one of the supported types.
    3. Try disconnecting Strava from Fitbod in Settings → Connected Apps, then reconnecting by following the steps in How to Connect Strava to Fitbod.

If you've recently switched devices, see below.

My workouts aren't syncing to Strava after switching devices. How to fix?

If you've recently switched devices, your old device may still be syncing to Strava using an older version of the integration, which causes Strava to block syncs from your new device as duplicates.

To fix this, on your old device either update Fitbod to the latest version or disconnect Strava by going to Log → Settings (gear icon) → Connected Apps → Strava → Disconnect.

Note that the sync is not retroactive: workouts already logged won't be sent automatically, but new workouts on your new device should sync normally going forward.

If the issue persists, contact support with a screenshot of the workout you're trying to sync.

Why isn't my average heart rate showing up in Strava?

While Fitbod displays your heart rate live during a workout, heart rate isn't included when your workout syncs to Strava as an activity. We're working on a more detailed heart rate feature and plan to include it in the future.

Why isn't my Strava activity importing into Fitbod?

Fitbod can only import supported activity types. If your activity type isn't supported, it won't appear in your Fitbod log.

I don't like how my workout looks in Strava. Can Fitbod change it?

The design and layout of strength activities in Strava is owned and controlled by Strava. If you have feedback on the look and feel, we'd encourage you to share it directly with Strava through their app or support channels,

Why does my training volume look different in Strava vs. Fitbod?

We're collaborating with Strava on updates that will align volume calculations across both apps. This is dependent on Strava's rollout timeline, so we don't have an ETA to share at this time.

Why is my Fitbod workout showing the wrong time in Strava?

This is usually caused by a timezone mismatch between your device, Strava account, or Fitbod account.

    Check your Strava timezone

    1. Open Strava.
    2. Go to Settings → My Account → Display Preferences → Timezone.
    3. Make sure the timezone matches the timezone currently set on your device.

    Update past activities

If only previous workouts are affected, you can edit the activity time on strava.com:

    1. Open the activity.
    2. Click Edit.
    3. Adjust the date and time as needed.

    Still seeing the wrong time?

Your Fitbod account may be using a different timezone than Strava. If the steps above don’t resolve the issue, contact our support team at support@fitbod.me and we’ll help verify and update your Fitbod timezone if needed.
