Disconnecting Fitbod and Apple Health
Introduction
Sync your workouts and body composition data with Apple Health for better progress tracking and personalized workout recommendations.
- Workouts: Send logged workouts to Apple Health and import compatible Apple Health workouts into Fitbod.
- Body Composition: Sync body fat percentage, weight, and lean mass to track changes and refine recommendations over time.
Follow the steps below to enable syncing and ensure the correct permissions are set for seamless data tracking.
How to Connect Apple Health
Follow the below steps to sync Fitbod with Apple Health.
In the Fitbod app:
- Open the Log Tab.
- Tap the Settings icon (top right).
- Scroll to Health Profile.
- Tap Sync with Apple Health.
- Follow the prompts to grant access permissions (see details in Apple Health Sync Permissions).
💡 Note: You can also enable syncing directly in Apple Health:
- Open Apple Health.
- Tap Your Profile (top right).
- Go to Privacy > Apps > Fitbod.
- Enable Read and Write permissions for workouts and body composition data.
Apple Health Sync Permissions
For the most reliable Fitbod and Apple Health experience, we recommend enabling all permissions (both Read and Write) when prompted.
Selectively enabling a subset of permissions can cause syncing inconsistencies — for example, if Active Energy or Workouts permissions are turned off, Fitbod may not be able to log your workout calories to Apple Health, even when other data points are syncing correctly. Enabling all permissions ensures workouts, calories, heart rate, and body composition data flow cleanly between the two apps.
Workout Syncing
Write Access (Fitbod → Apple Health):
- Workouts — Saves your Fitbod workouts to Apple Health.
- Active Energy — Tracks calories burned during workouts.
- Heart Rate — Logs heart rate data (if using Apple Watch).
Read Access (Apple Health → Fitbod):
- Workouts — Imports compatible Apple Health workouts into Fitbod.
- Active Energy — Reads calorie burn data.
- Heart Rate — Includes heart rate info during workouts (if applicable).
Body Composition Syncing
Read & Write Access:
- Body Fat Percentage
- Body Mass Index (BMI)
- Lean Body Mass
- Waist Circumference
- Weight
- Height
Profile data (for better calorie estimates)
- Date of Birth
- Sex
- Height
- Weight
These are used to refine Fitbod's calorie burn estimates. They can also be entered manually in the app if you'd prefer not to grant access.
💡 Tip: If you skipped permissions on first setup, you can re-enable them at any time:
- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap your profile icon (top right) → Apps → Fitbod.
- Tap "Turn All Categories On."
Logging & Syncing Workouts
Once you've enabled Apple Health permissions, Fitbod will sync your workouts to Apple Health automatically. The Sync to Apple Health toggle on the post-workout summary screen stays on by default — you don't need to enable it each time.
The toggle will only turn off if:
- You manually toggle it off before saving a workout
- You disconnect Fitbod from Apple Health in settings
- You delete and reinstall Fitbod
If you'd rather not sync a specific workout (for example, a quick warm-up), you can toggle it off on the post-workout summary screen before tapping Log Workout.
If a workout didn't sync
If you logged a workout with the toggle off or notice it's missing from Apple Health, you can resend it on the same day:
- Ensure you're Apple Health permissions are enabled.
- Open the Log tab.
- Tap the workout you want to sync.
- Tap Resume, then Save again with the Apple Health toggle on.
This only works on the same calendar day the workout was originally logged. Workouts from previous days can't be backfilled into Apple Health.
Syncing with Apple Fitness
To sync workouts with the Apple Fitness app, you’ll need an Apple Watch. Once enabled, any logged workouts synced to Apple Health will automatically sync to the Fitness app.

To account for outside activity, manually adjust your muscle recovery percentages from the Workout tab before generating your next Fitbod workout.

Troubleshooting & FAQ
My workouts aren't syncing to Apple Health, or the connection keeps dropping
If you're on Fitbod 8.15 or earlier, please update to the latest version from the App Store — older versions had a permission issue that caused Apple Health to silently disconnect between workouts.
After updating, you'll see the Apple Health permission prompt one more time when you open Fitbod. Please approve it — this is a one-time step to restore access on accounts that were affected.
If you're on the latest version and the connection still drops:
- Open the Health app on your iPhone.
- Tap your profile icon → Privacy & Security → Apps → Fitbod.
- Tap "Turn All Categories Off," wait a few seconds, then tap "Turn All Categories On."
- Open Fitbod and complete a workout to confirm the connection holds.
My Fitbod workout calories aren't showing in my Move ring or Apple Fitness totals
If your workouts are syncing to Apple Health but the calories aren't showing in your daily Move ring or Apple Fitness summary, this is usually a data source priority issue.
Apple Health uses a priority ranking when more than one app writes Active Energy at the same time — it picks one source as authoritative and ignores the others. If Fitbod sits below another source (like your Apple Watch, Whoop, or Strava), your Fitbod calories may be excluded from your totals.
To put Fitbod at the top of the priority list:
- Open the Health app.
- Go to Browse → Activity → Active Energy.
- Scroll down to Data Sources & Access → Edit.
- Drag Fitbod to the top of the list.
This change applies going forward only — it won't retroactively recalculate past workouts.
Can I sync a workout that's already been logged?
Yes, on the same calendar day. Ensure your Apple Health permissions are enabled, navigate to the Log tab, tap the workout, then tap Resume → Save. Workouts from previous days can't be backfilled into Apple Health.
Can I sync only some of my workouts to Apple Health?
Yes. On the post-workout summary screen, toggle Sync to Apple Health off before tapping Save for any workout you'd like to keep out of Apple Health. This will disable the sync for future workouts so you'll want to toggle this back on if you want your next workout to sync to Apple Health.
Which activity types can Fitbod import from Apple Health?
Fitbod imports the following activities logged via Apple Health:
- Indoor Run, Outdoor Run
- Indoor Walk, Outdoor Walk
- Indoor Cycle, Outdoor Cycle
- Elliptical, Rower
- Hiking
- Pool Swim, Open Water Swim
Activities outside this list — including sports like pickleball, racquetball, basketball, yoga, and HIIT — won't be read by Fitbod's algorithm. To account for those sessions in your next Fitbod workout, manually adjust your muscle recovery percentages from the Workout tab before generating the workout.
