    How to Pause a Workout

When you need to take a break, answer a call, or wait for equipment, you can pause your workout. You'll stop your exercise session without ending it and you won't lose any progress. This feature will work for up to three hours. After that, Fitbod will automatically log your workout.

Currently, Apple Health does not recognize Fitbod's pause feature so your Apple Watch will continue to track your activity even though you are in a paused state in Fitbod.

If you have any questions, please reach out to our Fitbod Support Team at support@fitbod.me. We're here to help!

    Logging RiR in Your Workout

    Understand RiR Ratings

Exertion Rating on the Apple Watch

    Why Use Reps in Reserve?

Reps in Reserve: Frequently Asked Questions

How should I choose my RiR rating?

How does RiR affect my future workouts?

Can I change my RiR rating after logging it?

Does RiR apply to all exercises?

    Overview

Reps in Reserve (RiR) is a method used to measure exertion during strength training. It represents the number of additional reps you could have performed before reaching failure. This helps you gauge workout intensity and adjust your training for optimal progress.

For example, if you complete a set of squats and feel like you could have done two more reps before failure, your RiR would be 2.

How to Use Reps in Reserve in Fitbod

Fitbod allows you to track RiR for each exercise, helping you fine-tune your training intensity.

    IMG_4654.jpg

    Logging RiR in Your Workout

    1. Complete Your Set: Perform the exercise as prescribed.
    2. Assess Your Effort: After your last rep, consider how many more reps you could have performed before failure.
    3. Enter Your RiR: When prompted, select the number of reps you had in reserve.
    4. Adjust as Needed: Fitbod will use this data to refine future workout recommendations.

💡 Note: Logging RiR for Supersets and Circuits

    • The RiR prompt won’t appear until all sets in the superset or circuit are completed.
    • After logging the final set of the last exercise, the RiR prompt will appear.
    • To rate other exercises in the group separately, navigate to the specific exercise, tap the More menu (three dots), and select Reps In Reverse to log it manually.

    Understanding RiR Ratings

    RiR Value Definition Training Intensity
4+ RiR Very easy, far from failure Light effort, warm-up sets
3 RiR Moderate effort Good for endurance and volume training
2 RiR Challenging but controlled Ideal for hypertrophy (muscle growth)
1 RiR Near failure Strength-focused training
0 RiR Completely failure Max effort, not sustainable every set

    Exertion Rating on Apple Watch

Exertion ratings on Apple Watch will be the same as the exertion ratings on iPhone. They will pop up if you have not modified your recommended workout. They will not appear; however, if your phone is open. If your phone is locked or Fitbod is running in the background exertion ratings will appear on your watch.

    Why Use Reps in Reserve?

    • Improves Training Accuracy: Helps you avoid overtraining or undertraining.
    • Enhances Progression: Fitbod adjusts weight and reps based on your RiR input.
    • Reduces Injury Risk: Encourages proper fatigue management.

    Reps in Reserve: FAQ

How should I choose my RiR rating?

Use your highest-effort set or the last set of an exercise to rate your exertion.

How does RiR affect my future workouts?

Fitbod uses your RiR data to adjust weight and reps for future sessions. If you consistently report high RiR, the app may increase weight or reps to challenge you more.

Can I change my RiR rating after logging it?

Yes! You can edit your RiR in your past workout log if you need to make adjustments.

Does RiR apply to all exercises in my workout?

RiR is primarily used for strength-based exercises. It is not applicable to distance-based movements (e.g., sled pushes) or certain timed exercises.

Does Fitbod adjust my RiR feedback based on fatigue from a superset or circuit?

Not currently. When you log your Reps in Reserve (RiR) rating for an exercise that’s part of a superset or circuit, Fitbod treats that rating as if you performed the exercise fresh, rather than accounting for the fatigue caused by the preceding movements. For example, if you perform a superset of Bicep Curls → Hammer Curls, your RiR for Hammer Curls will be processed as if you did them independently, not after already working your biceps in the first exercise.

What this means for your future recommendations:

    • Fitbod does not retroactively adjust for superset fatigue in that specific workout.

    • However, the algorithm places more weight on your strongest, most recent performances when determining future recommendations.

    • So even if your RiR scores are slightly lower during supersets, your upcoming weight suggestions will still trend toward your best (fresh) performance levels over time.

Tip: If you want Fitbod to better reflect your true performance capacity for a given exercise, try logging it occasionally outside of a superset. This helps the algorithm learn a more accurate baseline for your capabilities.

    3. Select Save New Workout.
    4. Enter a name for your workout.
    5. Tap Save.

How Saved Workouts Adapt to You

When you choose Generate new sets, reps, and weight, Fitbod uses your latest training data to build a fresh, personalized workout based on your saved template. This gives you the most accurate recommendations for where you are now.

Generate new weight only updates weights while keeping sets and reps intact. Note that this option doesn't support varying rep schemes within an exercise. If you've saved varied reps (like 12, 10, 8), they'll be standardized to a single rep count.

How to Load a Saved Workout

    1. Tap Swap in the top-right corner of the Workout tab.
    2. Select Saved Workouts.
    3. Choose the workout you want to load.
    4. Select how you'd like the workout to generate:
      • Maintain sets, reps, and weight: Repeats the workout exactly as saved.
      • Generate new sets, reps, and weight: Updates everything using our algorithm. This is based on your current strength, adjusting sets, reps, and weights for the right challenge and variety.
      • Generate new weight only: Keeps your saved sets and reps but adjusts weight based on your current strength. Works best with consistent reps; varying reps (like 12, 10, 8) will be standardized.

How to Delete a Saved Workout

    1. Go to the Workout tab.
    2. Tap Swap in the top-right corner.
    3. Select Saved Workouts.
    4. Tap the "..." next to the workout you'd like to delete.
    5. Tap Delete this workout

Note: This action cannot be undone.

    FAQ

Why did my reps change when I used "Generate new weight only"?

This option doesn't support varying rep schemes within a single exercise. If you saved a workout with different reps across sets (like 12, 10, 8 for the same exercise), they'll be standardized to a single rep count when you load it. To keep your exact reps, choose Maintain sets, reps, and weight instead.

Can I plan a week's worth of workouts ahead of time?

Fitbod doesn't have a built-in weekly planner yet, but you can create your own using Saved Workouts:

    1. Choose the muscle groups you want to train on a specific day.
    2. Let Fitbod generate a workout.
    3. Save it with a name like "Monday" or "Push Day."
    4. Repeat for each training day.

Once you've saved your workouts, you can access them anytime in the Workout tab and load them when you're ready. This method gives you full control over your weekly workout plan.

  • Weekly Workout Goal, Previews & Streaks

Setting a weekly workout goal helps you stay consistent with your training. It’s used for optional workout reminders and for tracking weekly progress with streaks.

    Set your weekly workout goal

    1. Go to My Plan.

    2. Scroll to Training Profile and tap Workouts / Week.

    3. Choose one of the following:
      • Days Per Week: Set a weekly training frequency (for example, 3 workouts per week).

      • Specific Days: Select exact workout days (for example, Tuesday and Thursday).

    4. If you choose specific days, you can set a Workout Preview Notification time. If you use Days Per Week, workout previews are scheduled automatically when notifications are enabled.

    How workout previews are scheduled

Workout preview notifications are optional and depend on your selected schedule.

    • If Days Per Week is selected, previews are spaced evenly throughout the week.

    • If Specific Days is selected, previews are sent on those days at your chosen time.

    To receive workout previews:

    • Notifications must be enabled in Fitbod’s settings.

    • Notifications must also be enabled in your device’s system settings.

    How streaks work

A streak tracks how many consecutive weeks you’ve met your weekly workout goal. Each time you complete your goal for the week, your streak increases by 1. If you do not meet your goal by the end of the week, your streak resets to 0. There is no grace period.

Streaks are based on the total number of workouts logged during the week, not on consecutive workout days. You can complete your workouts on any days of the week, as long as you meet your weekly total.

Example: Your weekly goal is set to 3 days a week.

    • Complete 3 or more workouts in a week → Streak continues

    • Complete 2 or fewer workouts in a week → Streak resets to 0

For example, working out on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday or on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday both count the same toward your streak.

View your weekly goal and streak

You can view your current streak and weekly workout progress from the Log tab. At the top of the screen, you’ll see your active streak, weekly workout goal, and the number of workouts you’ve completed so far.

After you log a workout, the streak card updates to show:

    • Which workouts for the week have been completed.

    • How many workouts remain to reach your weekly goal.

    • A confirmation when you hit your weekly goal, and your streak automatically carries over into the next week.

    FAQ

Can I change my start of the week day in the app?

No, this can’t be changed directly in the Fitbod app. The start day of the week follows your phone’s regional settings. To adjust it, you can update your region settings in your device’s general settings.
